The church at Bamburgh

A church of His purpose in the village of Bamburgh, gathered to Christ alone. It first met on 18 February 2026 in the sitting room of Andrea and Derek's home, and was confirmed on 21 February at Carol's farmhouse near St Cuthbert's Cave.

How it began

In August 2025 a burst tyre brought the Mission to Budle Hall, and its master, Ralph, invited us back, saying the churches had failed his community. In February 2026 he gathered the county in his drawing room to hear the gospel. At the end of the evening Andrea and Derek asked for a church of His purpose to be planted in Bamburgh.

Through them we were joined to Andy and Anna of the Northumbria Community on Holy Island, and to Carol on her farm. On Wednesday 18 February the first gathering met in their sitting room. The word over it was from Psalm 110: “Thy people shall be willing in the day of Thy power.” On Saturday at Carol's house the word was to raise an altar: to meet constantly and put away fear. The brethren agreed to go on meeting after we had gone. We have appointed no leaders over them; Christ is the head of that body.

In July 2026 we returned to strengthen the young church. On our last afternoon it gathered in Andrea's home, with Polly among them. When the word touched on the darkness of the land, one brother resisted it openly, and later came to us and apologised.
