For weeks the invitation went out across the city under one word: “It is time.” On 2 October we came to St Peter's, the only medieval church still standing in the centre of Derby. With our brother Emmanuel Akpet we preached in the streets for almost an hour, then sat in a circle under the arcades, worshipped, and opened the word: the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth.
Josh Callan, who had found his faith about six months before and saw the invitation in his feed, gave himself to the Lord and to the work. With Emmanuel and his wife Josephine he will labour and fellowship together as brothers in a covenant communion, for the glory of God in the city of Derby.
The next day Brother Segun Olumoroti (Jnr) stayed to confirm the church and laid its foundation: love, forgiveness, and a new family in Christ. Because they are few for now, they meet in their homes, and are looking for a place with its own address. It is the third church planted in the British Isles in less than two years, after Exeter and Bamburgh.
