From 13 to 26 August 2026 we travelled on a mission of the gospel to the island of Cyprus and to Türkiye: to the land of Barnabas, where Paul and Barnabas first carried the gospel beyond Syria, and to the land of the seven churches to which the risen Christ wrote in the book of the Revelation.
In Cyprus we preached and gave out the word on the streets of Nicosia, beside the line that has divided the island's capital since 1974, and on the shore of the Mediterranean at Ayia Napa. We went to Paphos, where Paul and Barnabas confronted the sorcerer Elymas and the Roman proconsul believed, and prayed at the pillar where, by local tradition, the apostle was scourged. In the rock-cut tombs of Paphos we raised an altar of prayer and declared that the land belongs to Jesus Christ.
In Istanbul, ancient Constantinople, we could not preach on the streets, for public evangelism there is treated as a threat. We went into Hagia Sophia, once the greatest church in Christendom and now a mosque, and saw the mosaics of Christ looking out from walls that no longer belong to Him. We prayed over Sultanahmet and made connections with two people, with a view to returning for quieter work.
Then we drove the circuit of the seven churches of Asia, praying over each: Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, Smyrna, Ephesus and Laodicea, whose lampstands were removed long ago. In the ruined church of Laodicea, one of the oldest church buildings in the world, Ekaba prayed at the altar.
